Mr MacDonald studied at The University of Glasgow, graduating in 1998. He undertook his early training in the West of Scotland before moving down to Cambridge as a registrar. He completed his training with a year in Australia, lecturing at The University of Adelaide and taking a post as Joint Replacement Fellow at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. Since 2011 he has been working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at 2 hospitals within Lanarkshire. He also practises privately at Ross Hall Hospital in Glasgow.

Hip & Knee Surgery Expert

Mr MacDonald has specialist interest in hip and knee replacement surgery, including complex primary surgery and revision cases. He has more than 13 years of NHS experience as a consultant in these areas, and has 23 years of experience in Orthopaedics in general.

Mr MacDonald is interested in teaching and training, having previously won “Trainer of the Year”, voted for by the trainees themselves and came third at UK national level. He is also part of the teaching faculty for the AO foundation, a worldwide organisation dedicated to innovation in the surgical treatment of fractures.

In his spare time he enjoys hillwalking, running, cycling, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
