Mr David Hewin

David qualified in Medicine from the University of Bristol in 1989. He trained in General, Upper GI and Laparoscopic Surgery and was appointed Consultant Surgeon in Gloucestershire in 2001. He moved to Scotland in 2023

David has a specialist interest in Bariatric (weight loss) surgery. He set up the Bariatric surgery service in Gloucestershire and developed this service from a single surgeon unit to a three consultant full multidisciplinary team.

As a result of his interest in teaching and advancing Bariatric surgery, David was the first Bariatric Specialty Tutor to be appointed to the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

David also has a clinical interest in and a broad experience of advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, including surgery for gallstones, hernia surgery and anti-reflux surgery.

During his career, David has served on the Councils of several National specialty organisations including the Association of Upper GI Surgeons (Honorary Secretary) and the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society. He has presented papers at many national and international meetings and published numerous scientific papers in the field of general, laparoscopic and Bariatric surgery.

David lives in North Ayrshire  with his wife Lorna.
