Types of Genioplasty Surgery
Genioplasty, also known as chin surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that can alter the shape and size of the chin. There are several types of genioplasty surgery that a patient can choose from, depending on their desired outcome. The three main types of genioplasty surgery are sliding genioplasty, chin reduction, and chin augmentation.
Sliding Genioplasty
Sliding genioplasty is a type of genioplasty surgery that involves moving the chin bone forward or backward to improve the overall appearance of the chin. This procedure is typically done under general anesthesia and involves making an incision inside the mouth to access the chin bone. Once the bone is exposed, the surgeon will cut it and move it to the desired position. The bone is then secured with screws or plates, and the incision is closed with sutures.
Chin Reduction
Chin reduction involves removing a portion of the chin bone to create a more proportional and balanced facial appearance. This procedure is typically done under general anesthesia and involves making an incision inside the mouth to access the chin bone. Once the bone is exposed, the surgeon will carefully remove a portion of the bone and reshape the remaining bone to create the desired appearance. The incision is then closed with sutures.
Chin Augmentation
Chin augmentation involves adding volume to the chin to create a more defined and balanced facial appearance. This is typically performed under general anesthesia and involves an incision either inside the mouth or under your chin. Once the bone is exposed, your surgeon will insert an implant made of silicone or another biocompatible material into the chin to create the desired appearance. The incision is then closed with sutures.
